Day 2 of the power outage…Here’s what we can do to speed repairs up:
1) Call DWP and ask them to “assign a crew to our circuit.” If you provide them with your address and zip code they will know where that is. 800-342-5397
2) Call Councilmember Ed Reyes‘ office and ask him to tell DWP to restore power to our circuit. 213-473-7001  (Councilmember Jose Huizar is at 213-473-7014, call him too)
DWP will prioritize the neighborhoods that complain the loudest (squeaky wheel gets the grease!) so if we don’t call, we will be the last with restored power. Right now Highland Park is the hardest hit.
Here are the numbers of households without power as of 6 a.m. Friday morning:

sharp results on Ave. 50 after pruning, weeding and trash pickup

A small but sturdy crew of volunteers weathered high temps on Saturday to complete another successful cleanup off Ave. 50 at Milo Terrace.  The abandoned corner lot, a commercial building that has been on the market for a couple of years, had wildly overgrown weeds, hedges and bougainvilleas.  Intensive guru Phil, Elizabeth, Maria, Patria and Meredith worked from 8 to 11 AM cutting, raking and sweeping and were joined by Field Rep. Liberty Mesa from Councilman Jose Huizar’s office and we recruited Rev. Dan from the neighborhood church on the corner.  A few neighbors lent us their green bins and four were filled.  HP90042 thanks Bussard’s All Pro Automotive Center (on York) for again contributing coffee, pastries and water (and manpower) to our ongoing effort to beautify our Highland Park neighborhood.

After a very successful second Intensive, we’re ready for more.  Our next Early Bird Intensive with Phil is set for Saturday, August 21 at 8:00 AM.  Meet us at the corner of Ave. 50 and Milo Terrace to deep clean sidewalks and parkways, pick up trash, give a little landscape maintenance and tender loving care to some neglected areas of Highland Park.  Meet a neighbor, give a little time to your community, and have some fun!

join HP neighbors on Aug. 21 at 8 AM for the Early Bird Intensive with Phil

Saturday’s “Intensive with Phil” project was a huge success. Thanks to nine super warriors who came out at 8 AM for three hours of deep cleaning, shearing, clipping, cutting, weeding, mowing and edging.  HP42 deeply thanks our own Intensive guru, Phil, for delivering the goods with spirit, energy and a truck load of sharp and sturdy tools.  HP42 also thanks the enthusiastic volunteers: Phil, Maria, Lupe, Heinrich, Arthur, Wendy, Barry and Meredith for delivering muscle and brawn. Special thanks to Bussard’s All Pro Automotive on York who contributed manpower in addition to generous loads of hot coffee, water, donuts and all the fixins’.  Good neighbors jumped on board and contributed green bins – 8 bins were filled to the brim with organic material in two hours.

A plan was made before we convened — the next Early Bird Intensive date was inked:  8 AM, Saturday, August 21, meet on the corner of Ave. 50 and Milo Terrace (the small yellow office building that is for sale.)  Bring gloves, your favorite garden tool and a large trash bag!

Your small commitment of time deeply helps our community!  It fosters pride in our neighborhood and helps avert (sometimes) littering.  Neighborhood cleanup is contagious! Ours are gatherings with a beneficial outcome We hope you make a little time to volunteer with us soon.  Email us at AldamaHeights [at] gmail.com so we can notify you of future events!

HP.July.31.Intensive

You’re invited to our second ever “Early Bird Intensive with Phil” on Saturday, July 31 from 8 AM to 10 AM. We’ll cut grass, weedwhack, trim bushes and trees, clean the curbs, streets, sidewalks – it’s INTENSE and it’s EARLY and we have our fearless leader Phil to lead the way with encouragement and his arsenal of tools.

Our York business neighbors BUSSARD’S All Pro Automotive is graciously supplying us with coffee, water and donuts and even manpower. Thanks also to Yolanda and the YORK AVE. Chamber of Commerce for her support and to Marcy, Jennifer and Elizabeth for flyer-ing over 200 homes in our neighborhood.

Come and support HP90042! Bring gloves and a useful garden tool. We look forward to seeing you!
